After a long day at work fulfilling his duties, Severance, goes to bed very happy to finally be able to shut his eyes. Severance, a highly skilled assassin, has been working with The Organization for most of his life after his mom, Marina Grace, was murdered in cold blood. Ever since then, Severance has been a good employee and member of the group fulfilling whatever task is given to him without any questions. Until one day, it being today in fact, he is given the task to murder a small child in front of their family by Alastor, the leader of The Organization. He is deeply distraught over being given this intense assignment, but as always, he follows through on orders. After this, he goes into a deep sleep that night and seems to wake up in another world completely…but is he awake?
He looks around to find these creatures who seem to be almost soulless and malicious towards him. He notices his sword in his hand when he “awakes” and starts to battle these hollow beings. Severance realizes that as he fights these creatures, they drop these strange shards which helps him to learn new techniques to fight them. Mr. Grace is greeted at the edge of the world by a larger version of the previous hollow monsters, and after defeating them he starts to remember something. However, is what he’s remembering true or false?
Time can only tell. The assassin continues his journey and realizes that there are different worlds, each a different season which these creatures have adapted to. Soon, Severance learns the truth of his mother, the child he murdered earlier in the day, and what The Organization really is. Eventually, if Severance can remember everything correctly, then he is faced with an alter ego of his and his mentor, father figure, and boss Alastor of The Organization.
After defeating both his evil altar ego and Alastor, he awakens, truly and has a revelation. Severance realizes that everything he has ever known has been built on a bed of lies, and he refuses to continue living this lie and quits The Organization, and assassinations forever.
